Über unsere Schule

This is us... more than just an excellent school

The European School RheinMain, part of the renowned European Schools network, is one of 33 schools located throughout Europe. Originally founded in the 1950s to provide an excellent education for the children of European Commission members, the school system has continuously developed and has now established itself as one of the world's leading, if not the leading, school systems.

The European School System begins with two years of pre-primary, followed by five years of primary school, and culminates in seven years of secondary school with the prestigious European Baccalaureate, a diploma recognized in all member states through international agreements and enjoying an outstanding reputation worldwide. All European Schools follow the same curriculum, which is a prerequisite for taking the European Baccalaureate.
The European School RheinMain is the first "free" European School, meaning that admission is independent of the parents' employer. The European School RheinMain is open to all interested students. Our school boasts a newly built campus of the highest architectural standards, a four-court sports hall, and state-of-the-art facilities. It is situated within sight of the city of Frankfurt in a beautiful hilly landscape with excellent transport links. Since its opening in 2012 with 407 students, the school has experienced rapid growth, resulting in a student body of over 1,700 this academic year. This success has been made possible by our highly qualified and dedicated staff; the teaching staff will continue to ensure high standards and meet ambitious expectations in the future.

Feedback from students and parents is an indication of the reasons behind the enormous success as a new and vibrant school:
• our status as a fully accredited European School, offering and awarding the prestigious European Baccalaureate;
• our identity as a school and a community where traditional European values underpin respectful interaction in life and work;
• our active interest in each individual student as a young learner and as a young citizen;
• Our belief that everyday school life should be pleasant, full of variety and free from tension and worries.

Visitors to our European School are fascinated by the atmosphere in the school, where we greet each other with a friendly face, where we share a certain lightness of being, where we respect and support each other, and where we all try to achieve our individual goals and fulfill our personal potential without forgetting to look out for each other.

Like any other school, we appreciate our excellent status, but we never cease to strive for the best for our students by constantly striving to improve the quality – and our care even more so.

In September 2021, the European School RheinMain (ESRM) successfully expanded with the introduction of an International Baccalaureate (IB) program within its secondary school. Currently, ESRM offers the Middle Years Program (MYP) for grades 1-5, and since September 2024, the Diploma Program (DP). We are seeing a steady increase in student enrollment. Unlike the European School, where the curriculum is multilingual, the IB curriculum teaches all subjects—with the exception of the second language—in English, offering flexibility as learning a third language is not mandatory.
